Great fun was had by all at yet another event for Czech & Slovak community in West Midlands, where children and also some adults stood for the first time on the ice, all learning to skate together. Some have seriously improved. A big thank you to Planet ice at Solihull for welcoming us at their wonderful venue. It was our 4th Autumn family event that we have organized, in St. Francis Irish Centre, for Czech & Slovak families and what an amazing family event it was. Fabulous Goulash soup with Czech bread was served, washed down by Czech/ Slovak beer & spirits, and the wonderful Douband created an amazing atmosphere. DFS Brezička did a short performance of folk singing with play on accordion. Pictures from the event can be found on our Facebook page by clicking on the picture above and the children performance can be seen by clicking on the picture below. Day out for families in the beautiful countryside of Shrewsbury, started with a farrier demonstration, followed by horse feeding, riding lessons and finished with a picnic on the wild meadow. It was a unforgettable experience for the children as it was for most of them, the first time they got to touch, feed or sit on a horse. Parents have joined in and really enjoyed the experience. Further visits to equestrian center will be arranged in the future. More pictures from this amazing event can by found by clicking on the picture above.
How better to finish the school year other than by having a fairy tale trail with an open fire. We had a Three Beatles (very old Czechoslovak story) visiting us in our Fairy tale garden. At the start the children were welcomed by the pirate and the Cinderella. Each child received a map with the story trail stops, were they had a tasks/challenges to solve for them and their parents. At the end there was lots of rewards for them, but they especially enjoyed roasting their own špekačky on the open fire !!! More pictures can be found by clicking on the picture above.
Family event enabling children to experience traditional Slovak & Czech music with their parents. Traditional Klobasa & Gulas were being served together with Slovak & Czech beer, Kofola, Vinea and other drinks familiar to our community. Pictures from the event can be found on our Facebook page by clicking on the picture below. Children attending Slovak schools in the UK had an amazing opportunity to join other Slovak children from all over the world at a ski camp in Slovakia organized by University Mateja Bella, Banska Bystrica. They spent a week in the beautiful mountains in Donovaly, where they did two sessions a day of skiing and in the evening they had Slovak lessons. Amazing opportunity for children to make new friends, learn Slovak language and how to ski. A big THANK YOU to the management of Solihull Barons for inviting the Slovak & Czech community to their penultimate game of the season, and after game skating. Children had the opportunity to meet the players after the game and take pictures with them. A great evening was had by all, made better by watching the home team win 5:4. Many stayed after the game to enjoy the ice skating and we look forward to returning again when the new season starts. Action from the game can be found by clicking on the picture above. |
