Czech Folk Dance Group LÍPA was founded in 2022 by Slovak folk dancer and choreographer Petra Dono. Originally established to introduce Czech folklore to children attending the Czech supplementary school in Birmingham, LÍPA has since grown into a dynamic ensemble of adult, teen, and child dancers, showcasing Czech culture across the West Midlands.
The group meets and rehearses fortnightly, bringing to life the rich traditions of Czech folk dance through energetic performances at festivals, cultural events, and community gatherings. Their beautifully handcrafted costumes, made in Czechia, were made possible through the generous financial support of the UK government’s Levelling Up programme.
With every performance, LÍPA celebrates the beauty of Czech heritage, engaging both the local Czech and Slovak community and wider English audiences, ensuring that these treasured traditions continue to thrive for future generations.
